Dutch coach advises Ruud to quit United

Marco van Basten believes Ruud van Nistelrooy should quit Manchester United Football Club after the World Cup Finals in order to sign for AC Milan.

Van Nistelrooy is out of favour at Old Trafford and is widely expected to quit the club following a bust-up with manager Sir Alex Ferguson on the final day of last season.

Although he continues to play the diplomatic line that he could still remain in Manchester, it is rumoured his agent is in contact with a number of top clubs around Europe about signing the player.

And van Basten – who has listened sympathetically to the 29-year-old’s predicament – has reportedly told him he could do a lot worse than consider signing for his former club, Milan.

With Andrei Shevchenko set to quit the San Siro for Chelsea this summer, they could be in the market for a top-class replacement – and van Nistelrooy certainly falls into that category.

The United striker has barely stopped finding the back of the net since his £19.1million move to England in the summer of 2001, and would represent a steal at the mooted price of £10million.
